Interested in Dungeon Crawl Classics RPG?
« on: July 12, 2013, 04:17:56 PM »
Any interest in DCC RPG at Games Day? My third slot RPG was cancelled and I was thinking of running DCC. It would be fairly episodic dungeon delves, allowing people who want to check it out drop in and out. At the first session. we'd start with character generation and a zero-level funnel adventure (probably Sailors on the Starless Sea). After that, returning players will be able to continue to use their characters. I'll have some pre-gens on hand for people who want to drop in to check it out.

I'd probably be able to start in August. I'm going to miss the October Games Day and November is the Con (I'm running DCC Sunday morning, though), so we'd pick up again in December. No experience necessary....

Got a couple of nods. I'll plan for it as at least a one-shot zero level funnel for August with room to expand to an episodic campaign if people are interested.

Yeah Tim. Thanks. I'll make a post in the thread. Still taking players, so if anyone is interested, let me know (or just show up). No experience necessary.

I'm a big fan of old-school gaming, so DCC would be one of the few reasons I would stick around for a 3rd slot game.

Awesome! Looking forward to the game. I think I have four people for August, but can certainly take a few more if people are interested.

DCC #67: Sailors on the Starless Seas

Since time immemorial you and your people have toiled in the shadow of the cyclopean ruins. Of mysterious origins and the source of many a superstition, they have always been considered a secret best left unknown by the folk of your hamlet.

But now something stirs beneath the crumbling blocks. Beastmen howl in the night and your fellow villagers are snatched from their beds. With no heroes to defend you, who will rise to stand against the encircling darkness? The secrets of Chaos are yours to unearth, but at what cost to sanity or soul?

Spellburn Podcast did a pretty good job of not being too spoilery, but Jim let a few things slip. I'm okay with that, though.

I have the free Beta rules.  Is it recommended to buy the full rule book before the game?  I'm a little strapped as I just dropped close to $50 on the new Star Wars RPG.

No need to buy the rule book. I have two copies, and maybe someone else playing will have a copy. Even though the rule book is ridiculously enormous, it's a fairly rules-lite game. I have some reference cheat sheets, and if/when ( ;) ) clerics, wizards or elves level to a point where they can cast spells, I can print out some spell cheat sheets. Or you can use the free phone app from Purple Sorcerer.  http://purplesorcerer.com/news/?page_id=215

I also have one extra set of the Zocchi odd dice (d3, d5, d7, d14, d16, d24) and an extra d30 that people can share if we need them. If anyone else happens to have any of those weird dice, feel free to bring them along. Of course, they can all be faked with your standard polyhedral dice.

d3 = d6 1,2 =1, 2-3=2, etc
d5 = d10 1,2 =1, 2-3=2, etc
d7 = d8, reroll 8s
d14 = d20, reroll 16-20
d16 = d8 & d6. 1-3 on D6, read as rolled, 4-6 on d6, add 8 to roll.
d24 = d12 & d6. 1-3 on D6, read as rolled, 4-6 on d6, add 12 to roll.
d30 = d10 & d6. 1-2 on D6, read as rolled, 3-4 on d6, add 10 to roll. 5-6 on d6, add 20 to roll.
(the app has a dice roller that can handle all the weird dice, if you're okay rolling like that)

I think I'll just grab Purple Sorcerers app as it has the die roller

Should we showed up with rolled up characters?  If so, how many?  The way I understand it you roll up anywhere from 2-4 zero level characters, and take the one who is lucky enough to survive the first dungeon as your first level PC.  With my luck the PC with all 5's in his ability scores and 1 hp will be the one who ends up surviving.
