(This is some background information on the city before we begin).

SHADIZAR THE WICKED

The streets of Shadizar burst with life; garish nobility followed by pandering sycophants, wealthy aristocrats carried on high-borne litters, exotic merchants haggling with thrifty buyers, hungry soldiers parading back and forth in black armor, greedy mercenaries looking for fortune and glory, diseased paupers huddling in filthy alleys, odorous livestock herded for frenzied consumption and contaminated rats surrounded by a swarm of flies.  Over the varying strata of life hang odoriferous miasmas; sweet smells rising from countless ovens, malodorous incense burning in bizarre temples and the cloying stench of local industries.  The unending surge of life brings an eternity of clamor blaring with it; clanging gongs and banging bells resounding from distinctive temples, laughing children and shouting parents playing in littered streets, bleating sheep and lowing cattle booming in fruitless outrage, foreign crowds and local throngs pushing through narrow alleys, shouting criers and screaming servants bellowing out unheeded announcements and lamenting mourners and begging cripples sharing their pitiful woes.

In Shadizar it is cheaper to dispose of an incriminating corpse than to buy a horse to escape the city.  The sweltering city is a den of vice and iniquity (and they like it that way).  Shameful things done behind closed doors in other places are proudly done publicly and openly on roofs and in public squares.  All desires no matter how disturbed or evil will most likely find what they are looking for, for the right price.  Murder is common and the punishment for it, is lax, unless it was some high minded noble.  Theft is as common as breathing.  All citizens normally walk around carrying weapons to protect themselves from each other's desires.

For those that love drink, flesh, and a society that doesn't judge you, Shadizar is a virtual paradise on earth.  But many call this place the most evil city on the face of the world.

Night caressed Shadizar, that city known as the Wicked, and veiled the happenings which justified that name a thousand times over.  The darkness that brought respite to other cities drew out the worst in Shadizar of the Alabaster Towers, Shadizar of the Golden Domes, city of venality and debauchery.

In a score of marble chambers, silk-clad nobles coerced wives not theirs to their beds and many-chinned merchants licked fat lips over the abductions of competitors nubile daughters.  Perfumed wives, fanned by slaves wielding snowy ostrich plumes, plotted the cuckolding of husbands, sometimes their own, while hot-eyed young women of wealth or noble birth or both schemed at circumventing the guards placed on their supposed chastity.  Nine women and thirty-one men, one a beggar and one a lord, died by murder.  The gold of ten wealthy men was taken from iron vaults by thieves and fifty others increased their wealth at the expense of the poor.  In three brothels perversions never before contemplated by humankind were created.  Doxies beyond numbering plied their ancient trade from the shadows and twisted ragged beggars preyed on the wine-soaked patrons unconscious on the stone streets.  No man walked the streets unarmed but even in the best quarters of the city arms were often not enough to save one's silver from cut purses and footpads.  Night in Shadizar was in full cry, and it's evils would repeat again the following night, as it had done so for thousands of years.

On on this dark night, our story begins with a motley group of "heroes" watching the jiggling delights, as masterfully created wenches  ply their trade on the main floor of a brothel known as "The Filthy Whore."  With drink in hand, and a lap full of a beautiful female form, some might feel that they have found a home at last, while others wonder why they have fallen so far.

This brothel is in the Maul district, which is also called the Desert, since nothing good ever comes out of it.  The Maul is the poorest section of the city, filled only with prey, predators, and scavengers.

Does this happen every night?

Krag hails from Ophia (has a lean body build),  Appears Tan Skinned, Browned Eyed, with DArk wavy Hair.  Attributes Agile and Smart are good, while his appeal his better than average.  Probably dressed more in the manner of someone living off the land for the last couple years.  He arms himself with a Mace and Bow.

Shadizar is known throughout the world as being a rough place, and yes, things like that or worse, happen every night.  >: )

Hakim is an olive-skinned, hook-nosed man in his middle thirties, with a neatly-trimmed black beard and an old, faint scar on his right cheek.  He wears a short merchant's robe and trousers, each of fine fabric, and a turban similar to those worn by Turanian aristocrats.  Some of the other characters met Hakim in the market, where he was selling (among other things) adventuring gear; it may have been he who suggested that the PCs "refresh" themselves at the House of the Soiled Courtesan (or "The Filthy Whore," as some call it).

Hakim's current companion is a sulky, pale-skinned, red-haired young woman whose costume leaves nothing to the imagination.

The laughter of the girls (and their faint whispers of pleasure that can be had upstairs) can barely be heard over the chaotic music of pipe, cymbal, undulating voice, and many string instruments.  The band is playing their heart out for the Madam that doubles as a bartender.  She has long since lost her luster, as the gray of old age is creeping into her hair, but her large chest still heaves beneath her billowing robes.

The girls of the main room giggle, tickle, bite softly, and rub themselves on the guests like cats do to mark their territory.  There are many Zamoran women in the establishment of ages between 16 and 20, but there are also the rare delicacies of foreign lands such as a spirited Kothian with dark hair and bedroom eyes, a Brythunian with blond hair and round hips, and a tall Nemedian blond that seems like she was carved out of white marble by the gods themselves.

Almost all of the girls are topless, and have strings of coins around their hips that jingle when the walk and dance.  The Kothian woman is an expert belly dancer.

Xanos' heritage is impossible to place. He is taller than a Hyperborean, but his skin is as dark as an Argossean. His eyes are as pale as the Aesir, and his body is tattooed in a manner similar to the Picts, but in a language no one seems to recognize. He dresses in a simple black hooded robe and loose pants, much in the manner of a Zamorean, but his chest is bare beneath, in the manner of many Cimmurians. The sword at his belt is engraved with the symbols of the Church of Crom as are the fine black gloves he wears, but the exquisitely crafted silver bracers he wears around his wrists bear entwined serpents reminiscent of the Order of Set. His bearing is relaxed and observant with an edge of concentration and intensity. His hood is up, but his eyes still reflect the firelight brightly and shine from the shadows of his cowl. He is the most passively intimidating person any of you have ever seen.

He drinks only tea tonight, saying he wishes a clear mind, and despite occasional glances at the girls as they pass the table, he seems to have no interest in the exotic scenery.

Brude sits on the right side of Xanos.  Short like most Picts, Brude appears very strong, with arms as thick as his legs.  His upper body is covered with intricate tattoos.

Brude is attempting to keep a close eye out for anyone looking to cause Xanos trouble, but his eyes tend to wander with all of the "scenery".

A Zamoran stranger walks in and goes straight for the Madam behind the bar.  He looks like he has lost more than his fair share of fights, as he is heavily scarred and has a nose that looks like it has been broken several times.  She motions the dark haired Kothian girl to take her place behind the bar, before the Madam escorts the gentleman upstairs.  He glances in your general direction but then turns again to the woman walking close ahead of him up the stairs.  You hear hear laughter at one of the stranger's jokes, and then the door closes into one of the above rooms.

It is at this point that some of the girls are getting more pushy with their body language, and also with words, about going upstairs.  Bastich, and most likely others, realize they make their money on tips, and more money if they can get someone upstairs.

The music changes to a more sultry slow and sensual song, that is meant to persuade people to do just what the girls are asking them to do.

Though the girls are enticing, Krag wants to keep with his current company.  If nothing else out of curiosity.   Maybe they can help him find the goblet he seeks.

"But Krag, there are plenty of goblets here, what more do you need to seek?" asks Brude.

The Brythunian dancer with blond hair and round hips, notices that Xanos seems to take little notice of the girls that are throwing themselves at him.  She slides closer trying to lock her eyes on Xanos' eyes.  She moves her head up to his ear and speaks.

"I have some knowledge about a local noblewoman that might peak your interest, as us of the lower classes aren't worthy of your lusty gaze..."

Xanos eyes roam up the form of the attractive dancer, eventually to lock on her eyes. Some trick of the firelight washes his pupils with a metal gleam for a moment and his hands tighten almost imperceptibly around his heavy mug. A muscle in his jaw twitches and his relaxed demeanor hardens to a hypnotic, predatory stillness.

A moment later whatever tension arose within him seems to retreat. He closes his eyes for a moment, and lifts his  his chin towards the girl as he opens them, visibly relaxing once more. He slowly lifts his glass to his lips without taking his gaze off the dancer. He speaks softly. His voice is the soft rumble of distant thunder.

"No one offers information expecting nothing in return. What do you want of me?"

The Brythunian dancer smiles.

"Of course I wouldn't give you information for free, silly."

She playfully slaps Xanos' shoulder.

"For the price of what I would charge for the use of my body, I will give you some information that my last patron let escape his lips when he was wrapped in my arms.  I assure you that it is worth my fair fee..."

She winks, and smiles.

"And if you want, I can throw a free bedding in, that is, if you like what you see my Lord."

She takes on an innocent posture, and turns her face down, playing the role of a demure peasant well.
