Dropzone Commander
« on: June 13, 2012, 03:19:00 PM »
Anyone checked this out yet?

http://www.hawkwargames.com/

10mm scifi wargame.  resin and pewter.  they are doing resin casts of city blocks for scenery!

The models are sweet as hell! and the Warstore has some sweet deals on starter sets that include a case.

-because I need a new game! ::)

I'm trying to ignore it due to the scale - different from everything else

I agree, like I need a new game besides Dystopian...

But I seriously dig the PHR. Love the aesthetics and the rounded armor. Plus, I'm a sucker for mechs...

To me, though, I think some of the Scourge dropships look a little goofy, but they aren't bad for the "evil" army. The Shaltari are pretty nifty.

What are starter armies running for on War Store?

$100 to 132 or so.  It looks like they have a "starter" and then a "premium starter"
Flash Gordon: Biro's hit! I'm going in after him!
Prince Vultan: Grrrr! Impetuous boy!
Prince Vultan: Ah, well; who wants to live forever? Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!

The premium starter comes with a cardboard case and precut foam

I like the looks of all 4 armies, the humans being my favorite.

let's see....added to my current backlog of minis to be painted, I should be finished in 132 years, 7 months and 3 days - give or take an hour or two.

Hmm... Maybe my late year purchase will be this game. Need to see more about the ruleset and how it plays. They've got my sold on the PHR though. I call dibs!  ;D

My next purchase is Firestorm's new rulebook.

Aside from that, they make some pretty bold claims that it can be played from small tactical games up to massive games.  I mean, besides the obvious marketing angle, if the rules do scale from massive battles like in Epic 40k down to smaller tactical games of say 3 or 4 tanks, a couple dropships and some infantry (which looks to be their definition of small), it would be an interesting feat.

I will say they have an interesting take on weapon ranges. AT-43 had unlimited range but limited accuracy. 40k had limited range and limited accuracy. I like that this game is looking at unhindered range and hindered range (due to electronic warfare).

Also seem to be working some kind of card mechanic into the game, because you know every game out there needs to have a deck of cards that goes with it now.

Not a big fan of micro-scale games, like Epic 40k.  Battletech is techincally micro-scale, but the 'Mechs are more like 28mm figs.

I'll pass on this one.

I've been catching the posts over at TGN nd I thought the models were pretty sweet.
Did not realize it was 10mm. That's gotta by some tiny painting. I would be curious to see the rules.

Yea, I need a look at the rules.  Hopefully I can check out some of the minis at Gencon.

While at GENCON I saw (and purchased) the Cityscape Card Scenery Set.

http://www.miniaturemarket.com/dzc99004.html

This was a great buy, enough 1'x1' tiles to make a 4'x6' board, with a bunch of paper buildings that fold flat for storage.

They also had a resin board set that another company is going to make, and the Kickstarter will commence in a few weeks.  Once the resin board Kickstarter starts, I'll make a post here.

While the figures and rules for DZC seemed interesting, I have no interest in playing DZC.  The terrain is perfect for Robotech Tactics though, and that's why I bought a set.  I may even buy a second set to get more buildings.

This is what I figured.  I was going to wait until things were a bit closer with RBTT to get these and I figured 2 sets would be just about right.

Can't wait to see these.

I hate to dredge up old posts, but I was wondering if any here plays Dropzone?

One or two of my friends and I play occasionally in Morgantown, WV, but it would be nice to have a larger community nearby.

I've been eyeing this game for some time now. I used to be a huge Epic fan and this could be up my alley.

Is this still being played here? If yes, how about a demo game? ;)

Honestly, I don't think any of us started playing Dropzone Commander to be honest.

It's not that it doesn't look cool, but it hasn't really gotten traction yet in this group I don't think. A few of us have discussed playing Firestorm: Planetfall which is a similiar vane of sci-fi miniatures game.
