Yeah, I watched a demo of it at GenCon. Looks interesting. Uses hex movement, different weighted dice (a bit like formula de), and record sheets. Looks pretty interesting honestly.

I saw the demo at GenCon too but they were using these HUGE paper standups for airships and playing on a hex board with like 2 to 3 inch hexes!? This is going to be a miniatures game, right.

I was on my way to an event when I saw this and did not have time to ask anyone.

Everything I've heard on TGN makes it sound like standard battletech size hexes - the demo was enlarged for attention grabbing

Actually, Jim, the table you saw it being played on was some special table from a Vendor there at the 'Con (which I think Don said was selling for like a ridiculous amount of money). I highly doubt it will be anything like that. Although, I think for my perfect man-cave I need one of the war planning tables that rises out of the floor.

Regardless, I foresee the mini's actually being fairly beefy, like perhaps BFG size or so. Considering Catalyst was showing off that they are re-releasing at least all the Clan Omnimechs in Resin with all configurations, I imagine that was a clue that perhaps the minis will be Resin instead of metal.

The current rumors are plastic or resin due to size - metal has been vetoed as an option - so these sounds like they could be uber impressive - think Battletech warships in the fighter scales

Actually, from what I saw, there's a very good chance these will be big minis. Some of the bigger ships occupied 3 to 4 hexes in a row! They would also be based on multi-hexed bases as well. Unfortunately, I did not get a chance to even try the rules, except for a 5 minute eavesdrop i did during one of the demos between games. That being said, it didn't help that the demo guy had a pretty thick German accent.

Regardless, I also can tell you that the game will be based in possibly D10 or higher, rather than Catalyst's usual D6. Guns are color coded for what kind of dice you roll at certain ranges. Also, Hits are scored per facing and after certain targets are hit (say drive engines or turrets), any further hits will cause breaching rolls, which are all sorts of nasty fun. Think a cross between the Hood and the Hindenburg exploding in midair. Also, from what I can tell, since this is pseudo-3D, LOS is only blocked if a ship is the same or larger class than you. Makes it so big ships are pretty ponderous. Also, there are things like aerial torpedoes and tesla coils.

It does take some cues from the anime series Last Exile possibly (only not so heavily steam-driven and set in a alternate-Earth setting).

Here is a master of one of the ships.  The picture has a hand it so the ships look to be about that size.  Those should be some big fights.  Wonder why they went that big?  Still looks cool though.  I will be looking into this one as I loved the Last Exile.

Dice are supposed to be ala Formula De - which means nothing to me

Formula Dé:

The "Dé", pronounced like "day", is french for "die" referring to the special dice used in the game, one for each gear.

Each gear die not only has a different number of sides, but a range of values different than normal dice and most are weight toward the high values (i.e. the higher values are on more than one side of the die).

"For example, the four-sided (d4) die is actually labeled 1,1,2,2, while the eight-sided (d8) die is labeled 4,5,6,6,7,7,8,8."

"1st gear: d4 (1-2)
2nd gear: d6 (2-4)
3rd gear: d8 (4-8)
4th gear: d12 (7-12)
5th gear: d20 (11-20)
6th gear: d30 (21-30)"

Visually, it looks like an Ironclads or pre-Dreadnought version of Space 1889 (or what was that Martian Sky Galleons game?)

It also reminds me very much of The Last Exile.

(oh, I see Sunflare got the same idea already)  :)

Thank you, Jim.  I always wondered what the correct pronunciation was, and I always forget to look it up.
